Sore throat: natural remedies
Sore throat is a common health problem in winter. Irritated throat, burning sensation when you swallow, until your voice goes out… You have certainly caught a cold, laryngitis or the beginning of angina. Here are my advice and natural remedies of grandmother to prevent and treat effectively a sore throat. And this, as soon as the first symptoms appear!
PREVENTION FIRST AND FOREMOST
Indeed, in holistic medicine and therapy, especially in oriental medicine, we are in a process of health prevention. However, despite all our precautions, it can happen that the first signs of a sore throat appear. I often explain that the human body is incredibly well done. Know how to listen to it and trust it to stay healthy. Thus, each season its preventive natural medicines, with more listening to yourself.
Something to please singers, actors, but also the great allergic people…
Here are my tips and recipes for natural home medicine for a year without a sore throat. Indeed, singers and actors are also concerned, having to take great care of your work tool. But also, people prone to allergies whose symptoms increase during the change of seasons, especially in spring. Indeed, besides the eyes and nose, the throat can also be affected by inflammation.
If this is your case, wherever you have recurring throat problems. Such as: repeated angina, chronic sinusitis, frequent voice extinction… I strongly advise you to make an appointment for a kinesiology session. Above all, I could rebalance your energy circulation in the meridians. Then, research the root cause of your sore throat. From a distance, you can also do the work, it’s just a little different.
MY STORY WITH CHRONIC SORE THROAT
For years, I suffered from chronic sore throats associated with the problem of respiratory voices. I would quote: white angina, red angina, rhinopharyngitis, sinusitis, laryngitis, voice extinction, even the beginning of pneumonia. By force of circumstance, my mother became my throat specialist doctor. Until one day I discovered the psycho-emotional language of the body, shiatsu, and various alternative medicines.
Immediately, I made all the links with communication. I then began to observe and note the similarities in situations “before every sore throat”. For example, voice extinction a few days before going on the theater stage. All the times I said “yes” instead of “no”; when I should have asserted myself but didn’t say anything; when I didn’t respect myself by denying an emotion, and so on. Of course, there are other much deeper reasons behind all this, which I will not go into in this article.
Hypersensitivity and sore throat
In reality, expression and creativity is a need for the hypersensitive. Indeed, it is what helps them to empty their heavy emotional load regularly. Therefore, if all these feelings are not released (by the body), communicated (by speech), or denied (by the entourage or oneself), it makes the effect of the pressure cooker. Under extreme tension, it is then ready to explode.
And there, the body has only one option for shouting discomfort: a sore throat. That’s good, that’s how we communicate… Not bad as an indication, isn’t it? Nature is well done. Even if you understand the why of the how, the sore throat is still there. Thus, it must be treated to avoid complicating it… and more chemical drugs at the same time!
NATURAL REMEDY FOR SORE THROAT
Medicinal plants: herbal tea for sore throat
In 1L of boiling water, pour :
- Half a lemon
- Thyme ( + Rosemary and hyssop if you have some )
- Ginger ( 5 good slices, or more: I love the taste so I put the dose )
- Honey (real honey, not sugar in a jar…)
Let infuse for at least 5 minutes, up to 10 minutes if you tolerate a strong taste.
-> A good tip: add propolis, great for the throat.
Do not throw away the infused plants: you can reuse 3 times by pouring hot water again.
This way, you will be able to pour water again later in the day. Outside of meals, ideally in the middle of the afternoon. Avoid too late in the evening: on the one hand lemon is too rich in vitamin C and will energize you too much. On the other hand, you may have to get up to urinate at night. And also, it is possible that this may cause a coughing fit because it has an expectorant effect. Indeed, this is very good because what needs to be eliminated has to come out. But in the evening, it should not prevent you from sleeping.
In addition, the hot lemon drink is also an Ayurvedic medicine. It cleanses your stomach when taken every morning regularly. It is true that I have seen fewer jet lag side effects if I drink hot lemon water when I arrive.
No doubt I have to break a cliché: if the lemon is an acidic fruit, for the body it is basic. On the contrary, if you have a weak stomach, it is the perfect natural medicine to drink with hot water. Take advantage of your natural medicine to treat your sore throat and preserve your natural acid-base balance!
Baking soda gargle, to prevent the proliferation of bacteria.
First, take a large glass of water. Pour a teaspoon of baking soda. Stir. Make your gargle, then spit it out. Do the same until the glass is empty. I prefer to do it after a meal, to let the throat rest behind. Also, remember to change your toothbrush
Clean the nose, to purify the respiratory voices.
The simplest solution is to use saline to clean the respiratory voice and improve breathing. This will prevent the spread of new bacteria in the throat.
Inhalation of thyme, to avoid angina.
This will disinfect the respiratory voice and reduce possible inflammation of the nose. This prevents new bacteria from entering the throat.
When is it done? In the evening, before going to bed. Do not go out again after inhalation!
- Take a bowl the size of your face
- Boil about 1L of water, then turn off the heat
- Put the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of thyme and let it infuse for 5 minutes
- Essential oils. Choose between: 2 drops of Ravinsara / Tea tree / or Eucalyptus. (Not all at once, essential oils are precious!)
- Put your head above the bowl
- Cover your head with a towel
- Take your head out occasionally to breathe.
In addition to being excellent for alleviating breathing system problems, it can also calm any coughing spells. It can also reduce nasal secretions and relieve pain if the onset of sinusitis is on the horizon. Note that sometimes the cough may increase and then disappear.
Methylene Blue, to treat angina
Attention, it is important to ask your pharmacist for advice if you have never used! In my family, we obtained a formula equivalent to what was called before “colubleu”. You pour several drops on a cotton swab and brush your throat with it.
It is very unpleasant and it burns I admit. In addition, you feel like vomiting when you apply it (automatic reaction when you touch the back of your throat). However, if applied at the first signs of a sore throat, you will avoid or stop the onset of angina (acute inflammation of the pharynx). And if already installed, it will speed up the healing process.
Phycocyanine, to boost your immune defenses
You’re going to tell me that I often talk about it, but yes, I love phycocyanin (phyco for its little name)! It’s the blue pigment with a reddish sheen that is found in spirulina. Once extracted, its properties multiply significantly. I invite you to read my article on the subject.
Dosage: one teaspoon in a glass of water in the morning, until the bottle is finished. If it is a lower concentration of phycocyanin, you will have to take a tablespoon instead.
It is an active ingredient that strengthens your immune system. Like any food supplement acting on immunity, the results appear on the long term. Hence the fact of envisaging a cure of 90 (1 bottle of 250ml of liquid phycocyanine).

THE PSYCHO-EMOTIONAL ORIGINS OF SORE THROAT
Indeed, many ailments and diseases have psycho-emotional root causes, sometimes even linked to transgenerational memories. Depending on the importance of the case in question, this can be partially or completely released during a kinesiology session.
Of course, this is by no means a generality, let alone a belief. But it is good to consider it for complete healing of any health concerns encountered. For a sore throat, here are some indications of what to look for.
The symbolism of the throat
To begin with, the throat contains the vocal cords (the larynx) and the pharynx. What’s more, it allows me to express who I am and to communicate with those around me. Linked to the throat chakra, it is an area of the body related to creativity (expression), truth, and self-affirmation.
Also, the throat is connected to the 2nd chakra, centers sexual energy: also a way to communicate. Our words crystallize the thought, to materialize. Indeed, thoughts are vibrations. They have an influence on health, both positive and negative, and on those around me.
However, the psycho-emotional language of the body is complex. Without having had you in consultation, I can only share avenues of research, thus supporting your personal work. This is no substitute for therapeutic work adapted to you, especially in the case of chronic sore throat. Nor does it exclude physically treating the sore throat.
Personal observation and analysis work
First, start looking for disruptive events in the last 2 3 days, before the sore throat begins. Actions, where you have not been able to respect a harmonious communication with yourself, your environment.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- What were my thoughts: about myself, others, a situation?
- How did I react?
- What did I feel?
- How did I, or did I not, express this emotion?
- Was it right for me and aligned?
- How often does this happen?
- The last time I had a sore throat, was I experiencing something similar?
Consult a holistic therapist
Indeed, you will not necessarily consult for a temporary sore throat. It will make more sense to consult for health prevention at the beginning of November to prepare for winter with shiatsu or kinesiology touch for health. Or even before the arrival of spring for allergies. However, if it’s chronic, it can be very useful and help you avoid a more serious illness later on.
